At the reception after the first Mass of Fr. Keith Kenny, who was ordained yesterday for the Diocese of Phoenix.
At the sight of them, the vestments made me cry, but then he told us about them. He obviously had them custom made, but the detail that went into them was astonishing. He commissioned a Catholic artist for the images of Our Lord and Our Lady. He was ordained on the feast of the Immaculate Heart of Mary and used the images for his ordination cards. The front is supposed to bring to mind a statue of Mary. The “AM” stands not for “Ave Maria,” but for “Auspice Maria,” Latin for “Under the protection of Mary.” The back had a cross, keys for St. Paul, and the chi ro. He seemed pleased that someone asked to take a picture of the back.
